Team Building Cooking Events Walk-Through for a Typical Class
Team Building Cooking Events Offer a Unique and Memorable Experience
When you’re searching for a team activity in Atlanta, you are flooded with indoor and outdoor activity choices. To help you understand the value of team building cooking events, lets walk through a typical event with Local Marketing of Atlanta. This is a quick way for you to see what your team will learn and experience from a cooking activity at Team Building with Taste.
How Can Culinary Team Building Develop Team Skills?
So how does a cooking competition match up to team skills that your workers need in your office or on the shop floor? Any restaurant knows that an efficient kitchen is essential to a successful business. Besides a competent and polite service staff, customers expect their food to come out the way they ordered it and in a timely manner. Chefs and line cooks work tirelessly to deliver orders, and doing so requires clear communication and solid teamwork.
At Team Building with Taste, we’ve turned this experience into an opportunity for workers from any industry to bond and learn how to rely on one another. We offer custom culinary team building programs to emulate a professional atmosphere, and we add a dash of fun. Fans of Food Network shows like Iron Chef and Chopped will relish the opportunity to take part in a cooking competition inside a real commercial kitchen.
Participants leave our team building cooking events with fun memories, stronger bonds, new cooking skills, and best of all, a delicious meal that they prepared. One of Atlanta’s top digital marketing agencies, Local Marketing, Inc. (LMI), recently visited our facility for an evening of cooking, delicious food, great drinks, and a new sense of teamwork.
Let’s walk through their team building experience at our Atlanta commercial kitchen.
Creative Team Building with Food & Drinks
The employees arrived to our Atlanta location and settled in with a selection of microbrews, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages as well as a tasty appetizer. Everyone was separated into three teams, and each team was paired up with one of our professional chefs.
We set up a four-course Bistro-style meal challenge with one of our delicious menus, including:
- Grilled Cornish Game Hen with an Apricot Pepper Glaze
- Mushroom Risotto with Leeks
- Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Cauliflower & Carrots
- Grilled Garlic Bread
Once in the kitchen, the first challenge given was to come up with team names. Luckily, our plastic wine glasses allowed the teams to bring their drinks with them, which helped fuel their creativity.
The crew from Local Marketing, Inc. decided upon names for their three teams:
- Butter
- Burro
- 3 Men & a Hen
Team Building for Digital Marketing Agencies
Teams were a mix of home cooks and novices, but each group was assigned a professional chef for guidance along with comprehensive recipes. But this event is different from a regular cooking class. You’re here to learn so these chefs don’t cook for you. Your team is doing the creative cooking. The chefs are there to keep your team on track to your team goal, just like a good project manager.
Similar to the hit show Iron Chef, these teams had an hour to prepare the four dishes. They were judged on taste, plating, and presentation. We also threw in a few unexpected curve balls throughout the competition.
The first challenge we presented required teams to use Chick-fil-a condiments as part of their recipes. 3 Men & a Hen replaced the apricot pepper glaze for the Cornish Game Hen with an inspired sweet and sour glaze.
Next, we removed one person from each team for five minutes, and their cooking partners had to pick up their slack just like they would in a real office.
Each team from LMI worked together to execute their meals in the allotted time. As if cooking a full course meal wasn’t challenging enough, they also had to prepare a judges’ plate and come up with a fun presentation for their meal.
At the end, each team successfully cooked and plated their meals. The judges critiqued not only the food but also the collaboration and creativity of each team.
While Butter offered a one-of-a-kind plating, 3 Men & a Hen executed a skillful sales pitch for their presentation. Ultimately, Team Burro won when one of their teammates nailed an impersonation of the Swedish Chef from The Muppets.
First prize consisted of a cook book full of Atlanta chefs’ favorite recipes, and the team in third place was gifted with copies of “The Can’t Cook Book.” We are happy they enjoyed their experience and bonded over our program.
Team Building with Taste is perfect for companies who perform digital work that involves sitting in front of a computer all day. Employees get the chance to get out of their seats, be active, and interact with one another in a whole new environment. People get to share more of their actual personality, and teammates often feel like they’re meeting their co-workers for the first time all over again. Then, when they’re finished, they have tangible and delicious results they can enjoy.
